Mark A. R. Cooper, Director of Health for the Westport Weston Health District, announced today that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a Health Advisory indicating that influenza activity remains high and can cause severe disease in some people. It is not too late to get the flu vaccine; the CDC continues to recommend everyone six months of age and older get vaccinated.
The Westport Weston Health District still has a limited supply of high dose, seasonal and Flublok (egg free) influenza vaccine for those who have not yet been vaccinated and want to be. The vaccinations are available at the Health District offices, 180 Bayberry Lane, Westport. The high dose flu vaccine is available for persons 65 years and older.
Walk-ins are accepted during normal working hours during the week, however, everyone is encouraged to schedule an appointment online to ensure a nurse is available, click the blue button below, or call 203-227-9571 x231.
Insurances accepted for flu vaccinations are Aeta, Cigna, Connecticare, and Medicare Part B. Insurance cards must be presented for each person receiving a vaccination. Persons with other health insurance or no health insurance must pay with cash, check or credit card. Visa and Mastercard credit cards accepted.
The fees for vaccinations are as follows: $45 (seasonal influenza vaccine), $80 (high dose influenza vaccine), or $75 (Flublok egg free vaccine).
The Westport Weston Health District continues it’s 30 plus year tradition of offering flu vaccinations using the most protective flu vaccines currently on the market, given by experienced nurses. Studies have shown that the high dose vaccine is safe and more effective for seniors than the regular vaccine, however, the Centers for Disease Control does not express a preference for any particular flu vaccine.
