Norwalk/Danbury Hospital System Seeks COVID-19 Plasma Donation

A review of the number of positive COVID19 cases being reported by the Connecticut State Department of Health, as of 4:00 pm this Tuesday April 7, 2020 reveals that out of the total 7781(an increase of 875 from yesterday) confirmed laboratory cases in Connecticut, 4136 (an increase of 420 from yesterday) were located in Fairfield County; 148 (an increase of 2 from yesterday) were from Westport and 34 (an increase of 1 from yesterday) from Weston. Norwalk (625 cases), Danbury (609 cases), Stamford (1000 cases), Waterbury (299), New Haven (365), Greenwich (288), and Bridgeport (346) now surpass Westport in the number of cases. Although Fairfield County continues to have the largest number of positive cases in Connecticut, New Haven County is next with 1664 cases (1468 yesterday), Hartford County with 1045 cases (882 yesterday) and Litchfield County 255 (230 yesterday).
To best protect yourself and loved ones, assume the virus is everywhere and avoid touching your face before washing your hands.

The CDC continues to study the spread and effects of the novel coronavirus across the United States. We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
It is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus. CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.
The cloth face coverings being recommended for use by the general public are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.
