Novel Coronavirus: update
Mark A.R. Cooper, Director of Health for the Westport Weston Health District stated today that the Health District continues to closely monitor the novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) reports from the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH). Additionally, the Health District is participating in the State Health and CDC teleconferences dedicated to the Coronavirus response. Mr. Cooper pointed out that the WWHD does have some experience working with State Health and the CDC in past SARs, MER and Ebola outbreaks.
The Health District is stressing the importance of hand hygiene, covering your coughs, staying home when feeling ill, and for people to have their seasonal influenza and pneumonia vaccines. Influenza rates (the Flu) are on the rise and can have symptoms similar to the Novel Corona Virus, so being vaccinated takes on greater importance this year. Anyone with symptoms of a cough, fever, aches, or any flu-like symptoms should contact their primary care provider for an evaluation and possible influenza testing. The health district has both influenza and pneumonia vaccines available; anyone wanting to be vaccinated can contact the Health District by calling 203-227-9571 x231 to schedule an appointment.
