Restaurants Open Today

Restaurants across Connecticut were permitted to offer outdoor dining starting today.  As previously explained, before opening, these establishments are obligated to complete an online certification application through the State of Connecticut’s Department of Community and Economic Development.  Additionally, restaurants need to complete an application through each town’s Planning & Zoning Department. These processes were developed in order to ensure that businesses are prepared to keep their employees and customers as safe as possible.

As establishments open for business and patrons take advantage of local outdoor dining options, the WWHD expects that residents may have concerns.  The WWHD can help provide clarity on the guidelines as needed.  Please call with any questions.

The State of Connecticut has also set up a Reopen CT online complaint form.  This form is intended for complaints that pertain to requirements of the Sector rules only.  Complaints can be made anonymously.

https://appengine.egov.com/apps/ct/COVID-19/Reopen-CT-Business-Complaint-Form

2-1-1 will direct callers with complaints that relate to the sector rules to this Reopen CT online complaint for as well.  Depending on the type of complaint, it will be triaged to the relevant authority such as the Health District or Police.

With all of the thoughtful preparation and planning work put into reopening businesses around Westport and Weston, we are hopeful that this first phase will be smooth and safe.

Guidance on Public Pools & Swimming

Per recent conversations with the State of Connecticut’s Department of Public Health and Department of Environmental Protection, it is advised that public pools and splash pads remain closed at this time.  This is not due to a concern over COVID-19 transmission in recreational water, but rather because of social distancing concerns.  The State notes concern that an adequate distance between individuals is difficult to maintain in a public swimming pool.  The WWHD expects that the State will issue  written guidelines clarifying operations in the near future.  We will share the information as soon as it becomes available.

Infrared Thermometers and Masks

A supply of thermometers and masks are available for qualifying organizations. Small businesses, nonprofits, and places of worship that wish to request this equipment should complete the online form with their request.  Distribution will continue while supplies last.
