Be Prepared

When disaster strikes, you may not have time to prepare.  While local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after an emergency, they may not be able to reach everyone right away.  Careful planning helps to ensure that you’ll have what you need to get through an emergency.

The State of Connecticut has implemented an emergency notification system to alert residents about life-threatening emergency conditions.  You can get emergency alerts sent to you on any communication device that you use, such as your cell phone, email, text message, or certain hearing impaired devices, just by providing your information, and keeping it updated on this site. To learn more & sign up to receive the alerts, click here.

The Health District maintains a confidential list of homebound residents. These individuals may have special evacuation needs or are dependent on electricity, and lack a local support system. Intervention occurs during emergencies as the need arises. To learn more or for assistance with developing a home plan, please contact Mike Vincelli, Director of Emergency Preparedness and Response, at 203-571-8353.
